There I was, sat at the dentist waiting with Clarabella and Ollie to have our six monthly check up.
I nervously picked up a magazine, can’t remember what it was called, but I remember it had this headline on the cover:
Special Forces Breath Control
Reduce Stress In 8 Seconds!
How could anyone possibly resist?
Wouldn’t you want to know how to reduce stress in just 8 seconds? I suppose you do, otherwise you wouldn’t still be reading this.
Before I give you the answer though. See if you can guess what it is.
You do know the answer.
What’s that you say?
“Give me a clue.”
Okay, cos it’s Tuesday.
Consider this: What acts as the bridge between your body and your mind?
That’s right Grass Hopper, it’s your breath.
And the Special Forces breathing technique for reducing stress in just 8 seconds is this:
- Breathe in for a count of 4
- Breathe out for a count of 4
Because your breath connects your body and your mind together, mindful breathing when feeling stressed helps to relax your body and calm your mind. If it’s good enough for a Special Forces operator don’t you think it might be of benefit to you?
But only if you try it =)
Remember, your life is the result of what you do, not what you know.
For me, this gold nugget was a timely reminder of the power of mindful breathing. So I used it to calm me down, as I’m not a big fan of the dentist.
Back in 2011 I built a seriously cool website that I pretty much forgot about until today. But this talk of stress reduction reminded me of it. So I went and checked it out.
And it’s good. I mean really good.
