“Far better is it to dare mighty things,
to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failureā€¦
than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy
nor suffer much, because they live in a grey twilight
that knows not victory nor defeat.”

Theodore Roosevelt

That’s a mighty meaty quote right there Grasshopper.

And I don’t know about you, but it’s just what I need to hear today.

How come?

Well, unless you’re a very new member of the Qigong Daily, it can’t of escaped your notice that tomorrow I’ve got 200 books turning up.

Most of which are already pre-sold.

And I gotta tell ya, I’m nervous.

Yup, you read right.

Let me explain.

I’ve always used an outfit called Biddles to print my books. They’ve done a masterful job of printing each of the 4 Qigong books I’ve written so far.

But you know what?

For each book, they contacted me and asked questions like:

“Are you sure you want the layout like this?”
“Are you sure you want the cover image so close to the edge?”
“Did you realise there are no pictures from part 3 onwards?”
“Are you meant to have a blank page on p54?”

And so on.

Look, I’m a brilliant Qigong teacher (modest too!) – but that’s about it. I’m not a graphic designer, layout king or editing genius. And luckily for me, when mistakes have cropped up…

…Biddles always spotted them and taken care of them.

But they don’t exist any more. They went out of business earlier this year.

I know, I was saddened too.

So the two 2nd edition re-prints I’m having done of Shaolin Chi Kung and Smiling From The Heart are being printed by a new outfit (well, new to me). And they do things differently to Biddles.

Because since paying the deposit and giving the green light to start printing, I haven’t heard a thing from them, other than the delivery date.

Which is why I’m feeling a little nervous.

Now Smiling From The Heart should be no trouble. The only difference is it’s got a better cover.

Shaolin Chi Kung is what’s got me twitchy.

You see, the original print was 170mm X 250mm.

But I wanted this edition to be the same size as my other books:

148mm X 210mm

Which means of course I’ve had to reformat everything.

Plus I’ve had to make a few edits, cos quite a bit’s changed since I first wrote it in 2008.

So there’s plenty of room for unexpected surprises.

If that happens and it’s unsellable – I’ve got a lot of explaining and refunding to do tomorrow. Now can you see why I’m feeling a little ‘angsty’?

And that’s why the quote at the start of this Qigong Daily gives me courage.

Because I choose to believe it’s far better to dare mighty things than to live in a grey twilight knowing neither victory or defeat.

What about you?

Are you pushing the envelope?

Stretching yourself to win glorious triumphs?

Or are you happy to play it safe?

Just asking.

The books will arrive tomorrow. And if all goes according to plan they’ll be taken to the post office for shipping the next day.

Jamie, the post master at Exeter Road post office, told me the last date for pre Christmas delivery in South America is 5th December. So I’m as confident as I can be that if you place your order today your books should reach you before Chrimbo!

And if you haven’t reserved yourself a copy yet, there’s still time.

But you’ve only got today and tomorrow before the big beefy Qigong Daily readers discount is taken away.

Bye for now
