Best Qigong Exercises For Knee Pain

Knee pain is common, but in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) it is often linked to problems with the kidneys rather than the knee itself. This means the most effective approach targets the kidney meridian directly — not just the site of the pain. Any of the qigong exercises practiced correctly will help restore harmonious energy flow, but the four below are the most cost-effective starting point for knee pain specifically.

Recommended Exercises

Divine Crane Rotates Knees

The standout recommendation for knee pain. This exercise is so effective that it is one of the very few in the 18 Lohan Hands that will produce worthwhile benefits even when practiced at the level of form — though practicing it as qigong will always yield better and faster results.

Reverse Hands Bend Waist (Nourishing Kidneys)

Since knee pain is often rooted in kidney deficiency, this is a logical and powerful choice. A sub-meridian of the kidney meridian connects directly to the knee, making this exercise particularly well-suited for addressing the root cause.

Divine Crane Starts Dancing

Beneficial for the knees and legs, provided the movements do not aggravate existing pain. If this exercise causes discomfort, stop and focus on Divine Crane Rotates Knees instead.

Lift Heels Bend Knees

Encourages qi to flow through the lower body and supports the knee meridians — again, only appropriate if the movements do not worsen symptoms.

Form vs Qigong: An Important Distinction

With the exception of Divine Crane Rotates Knees (noted above), the benefits of these exercises are only fully available when practiced as qigong — with a Qigong State of Mind (QSoM) and genuine energy flow. The form is not the art of qigong.

Learning directly from a qualified instructor is strongly recommended. If that isn’t possible, your next best option is to learn qigong online. All four exercises above are taught in full inside my online course.

Psst: Qigong requires virtually zero athleticism, can be practiced almost anywhere, and does not require any expensive supplements, pills, or exercise gizmos. Want me to teach you? Check out my online course →
