The PERFECT Qigong System: 7 Steps to Effective Qigong Practice

PERFECT is a 7-step framework for qigong practice developed by Marcus Santer to help students master the techniques of qigong quickly and systematically. Each letter represents a distinct stage of a practice session — from preparation through to completion. Together they ensure that every session produces the best possible results.

The seven steps are:

Once you’ve worked through all seven steps, see the PERFECT System Conclusion — which explains what the framework is for, and when to put it down.

Why a Systematic Approach Matters

Qigong practice is a composite of form, energy, and mind. Without a clear structure, it’s easy to rush through the physical movements while neglecting the mental and energetic components that produce the real benefits. PERFECT ensures that each component gets proper attention in the right sequence.

Think of it as a vehicle rather than a destination. Once a practitioner has internalized all seven steps and can move through them with unconscious competence — without having to think about the sequence — the framework has done its job. At that point it can be set aside, just as you leave your car outside when you arrive at your destination.

How to Use This System

Each step is covered in detail on its own page — follow the links above to explore them in sequence. For those new to qigong, working through the steps in order is recommended. For experienced practitioners, individual pages can be used as reference for specific aspects of practice.

PERFECT was developed as a teaching tool for Shaolin Cosmos Qigong. The qigong itself remains the same art — PERFECT is simply a structured way into it that helps students build the right skills faster.
